Homemade Dog Treats

This one is for the doggy's. I've been seeing freshly made dog treats everywhere lately; coffee shops, bakeries, breweries - you name it. I love supporting local businesses and buying these homemade dog treats, but it's also inspired me to make my own. These treats require five basic ingredients and a doggy themed cookie cutter - that's it! My dogs absolutely love them and they last for a while.

I used a small 2" cookie cutter from amazon and it made about 75 treats. You can store the dog treats in a sealed jar on the counter for a few days, or in fridge or freezer after. Once they're in the fridge, they're good for one week. I recommend freezing these in bunches from the start and taking out a few days worth at a time. These can be frozen for up to three months!

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups old-fashioned oats

  • 1 banana

  • 1/3 cup natural peanut butter

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tbsp honey

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.

  2. Add oats to a food processor. Pulse the food processor between "grind" and "chop" for about 2 minutes, letting the machine run for about 15 seconds at a time. You can stop once the oats are almost flour consistency.

  3. In a large bowl, mix the peanut butter, banana, honey and egg together, then add the oats and mix. Once it's mixed thoroughly, you can turn the dough out onto the countertop.

  4. Roll the dough out to about 1/8" thick.

  5. Cut treats out with cookie cutter and place on baking sheet. Bake for 16 - 18 minutes, flip the treats over about halfway through. Cool completely before feeding to your pet!
