No brick oven? No problem. Grilling pizza is fun, simple, and a great alternative to turning on a hot oven when it's an 85 degree summer day. And this is the closest you're going to get to brick oven pizza without a brick oven. The way I make this grilled margarita pizza uses a few short cuts, and the pizza turns out super crispy and delicious.
Ingredients:
2 packs of pre-made nann bread. They come in packs of 2, so these will make 4 pizzas total. (I use the brand Stonefire)
14oz can of tomato sauce (yes, the basic non-seasoned can that costs $0.97 at most grocery stores)
1 lb of fresh mozzarella cheese
Fresh basil, about 4 tbsp
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste
Garlic powder, to taste
Olive oil, to taste
Pizza Preparation Instructions:
Do not prepare the pizza on the grill. Instead, prepare it beforehand and place the pizzas on a large serving platter to transfer to the grill.
Spoon the tomato sauce onto the individual pieces of nann bread and ensure the sauce coats the bread. I personally like to leave a very small section for "crust".
Add sections of mozzarella over the sauce. I tend to go heavier on the cheese since that's my favorite part, but it's all about preference.
Chop the fresh basil and sprinkle over the mozzarella.
Drizzle the pizzas with olive oil
Sprinkle with salt, fresh ground pepper and garlic powder.
Grilling Instructions:
If you have a flat surface attachment, put that on the grill. If not, and you're using tin foil, wait to put the tin foil on the grill. You should put the foil and pizza on together since foil heats up really quick.
Pre-heat the grill on high heat and allow it to get nice and hot. About 5 minutes.
Turn the heat down to medium, and place the pizzas (or pizzas on the foil) onto the grill. Allow the pizzas to cook for about 4 minutes.
Once the bottom of the crust is golden brown with some grill marks, turn the grill off. Close the lid & allow the pizzas to sit on the grill for an additional 5 minutes, until the cheese is melted & the toppings are warm. Carefully remove from the pizzas from the grill onto a serving platter or plate. Slice and serve warm!
